Both Manipulation and Stretching Help Reduce Myofascial Pain

Myofascial pain is a common condition treated with various manual interventions, such as spinal manipulation and stretching – both of which are performed by doctors of chiropractic.

A recent study investigated the effectiveness of thrust manipulation at the junction between the lower neck and upper midback compared to manual stretching of the upper trapezius in regards to neck range of motion and upper trapezius pressure pain thresholds.

The researchers found both treatments resulted in significant improvement in pressure pain thresholds as well as improvements in neck flexion and side bending range of motion. Journal of Back and Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation, May 2017.
