    Benefit of Therapeutic Massage

The benefits of massage are many.  Below are a just a few to be taken into consideration.

    • 1

Relaxes the body the and the mind, helping with anxiety, depression, and mood.

A massage can relax the body and mind through its influence in lowering the amount of cortisol in your body. This hormone is produced when your body is stressed and it increases glucose in the bloodstream, enhances the brain's use of glucose, and curbs functions that are nonessential in a fight-or-flight situation. A good therapeutic massage can lowers cortisol in the body while also releasing serotonin. This hormone neurotransmitter is oftentimes called the "happy chemical" because it reduces feelings of depression and carries signals between nerves and your body. By lowering cortisol and increasing serotonin, you're boosting your body's ability to fight off pain, anxiety and feelings of sadness.

Lower blood pressure and reduces heart rate.

Various research publications have confirmed this. For example, published in the January 2006 edition of The Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, researchers looked at the effects of massage on blood pressure and confirmed a verifiable effect on blood pressure reduction. Similarly, in a 2008 issue of the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, 263 volunteers received deep tissue massage for 45 to 60 minutes while listening to soothing music. The study concluded that there was a reduction in systolic and diastolic pressure.

It encourages circulation and movement of lymph fluid.

Lymphedema happens when your tissues retain fluid left behind after your cardiovascular system sends blood to your tissues and organs. The remaining fluid is called lymph. Normally, your lymphatic system collects your lymph and returns it to your heart via a network of lymph vessels and lymph nodes. When something disrupts your lymphatic system's process, lymph collects in your arms and legs, making them swell. Specific types of massage can help relieve painful swelling in the arms and legs caused by lymphedema.

Loosens tight muscles, stretches connective tissue, and improved range of motion and overall joint mobility.

Massage, especially deep tissue massage, can be used to relieve tight muscles because it aims at treating deeper layers of muscle and fascia. By using a firm deep pressure, combined with various other different techniques, used by therapists, inelasticity of muscular tissues is reduced. Inelastic muscular tissues causes restriction and increases muscle tightness. When it is reduced, blood flow increases along with an increase in muscle temperature, both of which allow the tissue to move more freely.

      Promotes well-nourished and healthy skin.

Newer studies are suggesting that massage might help improve skin circulation, by improving the delivery of healthy nutrients to the skin, improving skin plumpness, or promoting skin healing. More larger sized studies are needed to confirm this, but those who routinely get massage therapy appear to consistently report similar findings.

Reduces chronic pain and speeds the healing of tissues after injury or surgery, along with reduction swelling.

Therapeutic massage may relieve pain by way of several mechanisms, including relaxing painful muscles, tendons, and joints; relieving stress and anxiety; and helping to "close the pain gate" by stimulating competing nerve fibers and impeding pain messages to and from the brain.
Therapeutic massage is an active area of research. In particular, it has been studied for its effect on pain in the back, hands, neck, and knees, among other areas. A study published in Complementary Therapies in Clinical Practice showed a reduction in hand pain and an improvement in grip strength among people who had four weekly hand massage sessions.
Another study published in Annals of Family Medicine in 2014 found that 60-minute therapeutic massage sessions two or three times a week for four weeks relieved chronic neck effectively. And, many more studies are proving the same.

Encourages general relaxation and enhances good sleep.

Absolutely! Research indicated that massage can improve sleep in children and adolescents, those in pain, infants, those with psychiatric disorders, those with neck and lower back pain, athletes, those with migraines, elderly clients, those with fibromyalgia and for many more.
There are many mechanisms for this, with the most common being its direct effect on the relaxation of various bodily tissues.

      Improves concentration and productivity.

An overwhelming amount of doctor visits are connected to issues that deal with stress, including anxiety, depression, insomnia, and fatigue, which you may recognize from the list above as the most common causes of poor concentration. Massage has proven to reduce all of the indicators of stress through the following ways.
When you get a therapeutic massage, your body is given a simple reminder to loosen up. This will relieve any tension you have been experiencing in your muscles, which helps lower the symptoms of stress in your body. You will be left with more energy and mental capacity afterwards.
With decreased muscle tension, tight muscles stop contracting on your primary blood vessels which increases blood flow. Pain relief will soon follow, and your brain will be supplied with more oxygen, and therefore improved concentration begins.

      Tension relief headache.

A tension headache, or concentration headache, can feel like there’s a tight band wrapped around your head. There is research and clinical evidence that massages can provide relief for this kind of headache. Specifically, it helps relieve muscle tension in your head, neck, and shoulders, as well as deactivating active trigger-points that may be causing referral pain to the head.

I started coming here when I was about 20 weeks pregnant because I started having lower back pain. I'm so thankful I found Performance Chiroptactic because Dr. Duenas provided me with so much relief! He does great adjustments and also teaches you what's going on in the body and things you can do at home. It's obvious he loves his job and truly cares about his patients. The massage therapist, CYNTHIA, is amazing! She did several prenatal massages during my pregnancy. They helped so much.
