Transform your new years resolution into reality!

grace2Transform your new years resolution into reality!

How often do you plan to hit the gym only to run out of energy by the end of the day?
What if you learn how to take your workout with you wherever you go?

Some of the most effective exercises can be done with just your body weight or with simple “equipment” like a chair or wall. If you have a backpack, you can add books or gallon jugs to increase your workload and calorie burn.

For lower body try wall squats, walking lunges, sumo squats, one leg squats. They are quite effective and need no equipment. Push ups can be done flat, inverted or inclined, depending on your strength and goals. Do them on your toes or knees to adjust for your current strength. You can even lay on your back and do a reverse pushup to work your rear delts and upper back.

Bursts of cardio keep your routine interesting while elevating your heart rate. Burpees, jumping jacks, jump squats, knee thrusts – get creative and crank up your fave music and dance like you are a kid again. Better yet, if you have kids, get them to join in your energetic fun!grace3

For nice weather, take it outside, play a short, throw a ball with a friend or family member. Frequently colleges and parks have tracks with strength stations – translating to a free gym on pretty days! Fresh air detoxes your body while you enjoy free cardio and free strength training.

Do you have a long commute? Do isometric exercises. While you drive, contract your abs as though you’re doing crunches, hold for a second or two, repeat. Practice proper posture in your car, squeezing your muscles independently like you already know how to do on your abs. If you’re using cruise control, press into your grace4floorboard to imitate a squat.

At home, you can use gallon jugs for hammer curls and triceps- extentions.

Be creative, have fun, and get a loved one to join in your fun!
